Hello all, I just want to say that I hate blogs. Having said that, this is a useful means for us to keep you up to date with our travels and post some photos.
We're currently in Perugia, which is north east of Rome.
We're staying at a small B and B in the middle of town, the place is run by a family, but the grandma seems to be the only one around. She only speaks Spanish and French and is quite senile...at least we think she is. We're getting by speaking to her in French which messes us up when we get onto the street and have to try and speak italian. My italian thus far comprises of a few words and 2 hand gestures (one of the gestures involves me grabbing my crotch a lot).
Perugia is a beautiful town perched high above the Umbrian hills. It's sort of medieval looking. It is very clean compared to Rome and there are far fewer people around, which has been a welcome relief. The
Smoking seems to be a way of life here as opposed to a filthy habit. Although there are designated 'Vietato Fumare' areas, the locals tend to treat the signs with disdain and puff away undeterred. We were initially worried about being pick pocketed, but then i realised that I look like a giant version of the bangladeshi street vendors, so we generally weren't bothered by the gypsies...or the vendors.
We'll upload more photos as we go including pictures of me, which weren't on this memory card..not that i like photos of my mug on the interweb.
Hope all is well back in Perth.
Later
Dan
